The funeral for the late Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin, will be held in Detroit, Michigan on Friday (August 31st), and fans will be able to watch the service on several news networks. According to the Detroit Free Press, the city’s local news stations including WDIV-TV and WXYZ-TV will air Franklin’s homegoing service. Billboard reports that other television networks including CNN and Fox News will also air the funeral. Steve Wonder, Jennifer Hudson, Fantasia, Faith Hill, Shirley Caesar, Chaka Khan, Ariana Grande and more will pay tribute to Franklin at her funeral. The funeral will be held at Greater Grace Temple at 10 a.m.
As previously reported, Franklin died on August 16th after battling pancreatic cancer. Her family released a statement expressing their sadness about her passing, which said, "In one of the darkest moments of our lives, we are not able to find the appropriate words to express the pain in our heart. We have lost the matriarch and rock of our family. The love she had for her children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins knew no bounds."
A tribute concert will also be held on Thursday (August 30th), which will feature performances from Stevie Wonder, Chaka Khan, The Clark Sisters, Shirley Caesar and more. According to the Detroit Free Press, tickets are already sold out.
