Co-founding Grateful Dead guitarist Bob Weir will be kicking off a string of dates with his latest solo combo Wolf Bros next month. In addition to Weir, the lineup is rounded out by legendary producer Don Was on bass and drummer Jay Lane. The 19-date trek kicks off on February 28th at Ithaca, New York's State Theatre and runs through May 3rd when they hit Redondo Beach, California's BeachLife Festival -- which over the three days will also features performances by the Beach Boys' Brian Wilson & Al Jardine, Willie Nelson, Bruce Hornsby & The Noisemakers, Blues Traveler, Ziggy Marley, Violent Femmes, Everclear, Sugar Ray, and others.

Bob Weir said of the group's upcoming dates: "This is more fun than a frog in a glass of milk. Don is all over his upright, and Jay needs to somehow be kept in line at times, but it’s all falling together nicely."

Back in August, Weir spoke of the band's musical brief, telling Rolling Stone, "For a while now I’ve been itchin’ to explore our songs in a trio setting. An upright bass, my acoustic or electric guitar and a drummer. We did some rehearsals this past spring and it was big fun -- and that’s the whole idea. We were kickin’ around Dead songs as well as tunes from my back pages. I’m pretty sure we’re gonna have a big adventure with this."

Bob Weir told us that playing in a band pretty much gives him everything he needs musically: "Well, y'know, the kind of music that I like is the kind that takes a number of people to play -- it's an ensemble kind of deal. What I really have the most fun with is improvisational music that it takes a number of people to make. And you never know where its going and you never know what you're gonna get out of it. But you develop an ability to make sure that does happen, and I kind of like that adventure." :
