Today is Jerry Seinfeld’s 65th birthday.  The standup comedian was the star of what is considered one of the best if not the best Sit-coms of all time.

The Seinfeld Chronicles opened without a lot of fanfare and slowly built it audience to become a pop culture legend.   The show which in re-runs now still attracts a huge following of young and old alike.

I was surprised last week visiting with a couple I know with a 2 year old son that one of their favorite shows was Seinfeld.   We connected over the show about nothing.

So here are my 5 favorite Seinfeld episodes

# 5… The Jimmy with two story lines one of Jimmy who speaks of himself in the 3rd person Jimmy impresses George with his jumping ability he attributes to training shoes.  Karmer starts wearing them everywhere and because of a visit to a dentist and hailing a cab he winds up sharing a table with singer Mel Torme at a fundraiser to help people with special needs. Seeing Kramer singing with Mel at the end of the show makes me laugh every time.  But I wonder if the show was produced today if the P.C. crowd would go crazy.

  1. The Chinese Restaurant: Seeing George frustration waiting not only for a table but a phone call from his girlfriend is so funny.  Every time I hear the name Cartwright I think of George.
  2. The Puffy Shirt. I don’t know what is funnier the ongoing gag of the soft talker or Jerry wearing a designer shirt on a TV fundraiser and hearing Jerry whine.  “I don’t want to be a pirate”   Truth be told I liked the shirt!
  3. The Soup Nazi! How many times have you said “NO SOUP FOR YOU”?

There are two sidebars of this episode that are so memorable to me.

Seeing Newman smelling his soup and saying “Jambalaya”

Then Jerry and his girlfriend and pet names and arguing about who is the smoopiest!  One of the 1st episode my wife and I watched together and it struck a cord.  She is my SMOOPIE!

  1. The Marine Biologist; George trying to impress an old high school crush by claiming to be a marine biologist. But we all know he always wanted to pretend to be an architect!

The funniest scene comes at the very end and it is comic genius.   Watch it here “THE SEA WAS ANGRY THAT DAY MY FRIENDS”

Also on today’s show back problems

Stupid news: a butt dial solves a crime and don’t steal T.P.

Laff lines Jerry Seinfeld on being bored as a kid.
