Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong and bassist Mike Dirnt performed as members of a cover band called the Coverups at Oakland, California's annual 40th Street Block Party.

The band also includes Green Day touring guitarist Jason White, audio engineer Chris Dugan and tour manager Bill Schneider. The group's entire hour-long set revolved around covers from classic punk and rock bands like the Misfits, Ramones, the Clash, Nirvana, David Bowie and more.

Armstrong's side band The Longshot played some West Coast shows last month, while he and the other members of Green Day have also performed and recorded as Foxboro Hot Tubs and The Network.

Green Day has been on a break since completing the tour cycle for its 2016 album Revolution Radio. A recent report that new music was on the way from the band this month turned out to be just a rumor for now.
