Hollywood Vampires -- the supergroup featuring Aerosmith's Joe Perry, Alice Cooper, and actor Johnny Depp -- has just released the lyric video for "Who's Laughing Now," the lead single from its second album, Rise, due out on June 21st. Rolling Stone reported in addition to 13 original cuts, "Depp fronts their rendition of David Bowie’s 'Heroes,' Perry sings Johnny Thunder’s 'You Can’t Put Your Arms Around A Memory' and they also cover Jim Carroll Band’s 'People Who Died.' The set also includes guests Jeff Beck and John Waters on (the track) 'Welcome To Bushwackers.'" Rise was produced by Alice Cooper's collaborator and bandmate, Tommy Henriksen.
Joe Perry said in a statement announcing the new album: "Rise came from pure creative energy, which is just like playing live with the Vampires. The record showcases everyone doing what they do best without anyone looking over our shoulders. There was no pressure or deadlines, allowing us to write and record an album that is one of the freest and most honest sounding records I’ve been part of. I can’t wait to perform some of these tunes live for our fans."
Alice Cooper added: "Rise is not only a totally different animal than the first Vampires album, it is unique to anything I’ve ever been a part of. I approached it very differently than I usually do when working on an album. Each of us; Joe, Johnny, Tommy and myself have written songs on this album. What is different though is that I didn’t try to change any songs to be more 'Alice-like.' I think that with this album, we are establishing what the Vampires’ sound really is, whereas with the first album we were more tipping our hats to our fallen rock & roll brothers."
Back in 2015 upon the formation of the Vampires side-project, Joe Perry told us that was looking forward to the band growing into a solid working live outfit: "I’m an East Coast guy, y’know? I mean everybody else is kinda like, West Coast, or. . . So, to spend all the time in L.A. and to be part of this, it’s a real gas. And I know it’s something that Johnny’s wanted to do for a long time, actually have a band, y’know? And, y’know, we’re gonna put a lot of time into the rehearsals, so it won’t take anything but bring your guitar and show up."AUDIO: JOE PERRY ON THE HOLLYWOOD VAMPIRES COMING TOGETHER
