  • Elton John is the latest star to appear — and poke fun of themselves — in a new Snickers “You’re Not You When You’re Hungry” commercial. Variety reported Elton is featured at a house party rap battle and crooning an over the top version of his 1976 chart-topper “Don’t Go Breakin’ My Heart” before given a Snickers and turning into “Boogie, a hip-hop artist on the brink of stardom.” Boogie spoke of the TV team-up with Elton, saying, “Connecting with Elton John was. . . huge. His musical knowledge is crazy, he’s super in tune with current hip-hop.”
  • Over the years, the “You’re Not You When You’re Hungry” Snickers campaign has featured such stars as Aretha Franklin, Robin Williams, Don Rickles, Joe Pesci, Betty White, cast members from The Brady Bunch, Liza Minnelli, Joan Collins, Richard Lewis, Kenny G, and more. (Variety)
  • Gladys Knight revealed that she has successfully battled breast cancer. In the days around Aretha Franklin‘s death, Knight stated in an interview with Detroit’s NBC affiliate WDIV, that the last time she saw Aretha, “we shared the fact that we had the same disease.”
  • In a statement, Knight shed light on her cancer diagnosis: “I’d like to clarify that Aretha and I discussed both of us having cancer, mine was stage 1 breast cancer and hers was pancreatic. Due to early detection, I am cancer free and grateful for that. It is unfortunate that on a day we should be celebrating Aretha’s life and massive contribution to our world, a reporter who did not relay accurate information has missed the message. I send my love to the entire Franklin family and my gratitude to them for sharing such an extraordinary person with us.” (Page Six)
  • Doors guitarist Robby Krieger sat in with Alice In Chains on August 29th during their stop at L.A.’s Hollywood Palladium. Krieger joined the band to close out the show with “Rooster,” from the band’s 1992 Dirt album. Alice In Chains in touring in support of its latest album, the just-released, Rainier Fog.   • Rod Stewart has scored his 23rd Top 10 hit on Billboard‘s Adult Contemporary Chart with ‘Didn’t I,’ the lead single from his new album, Blood Red Roses, which drops on September 28th. Billboard posted: “‘Didn’t I’ becomes Stewart’s first top 10 on the chart since 2012, when he spent five weeks at Number One with his rendition of holiday standard ‘Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow.'” (Billboard)
  • Britain’s David Bowie fans will have a new place to congregate with the opening of a new cocktail bar in London named Ziggy’s. The watering hole will open on September 20th at the Hotel Cafe Royal, which was ” the same location where Bowie hosted his “Last Supper” party in 1973 to retire his iconic persona Ziggy Stardust.” (Pitchfork)
  • The ByrdsRoger McGuinn and Chris Hillman have extended their steadily growing ‘Sweetheart Of The Rodeo’ 50th anniversary tour with the trek now spanning 18 shows. New dates on the books include Louisville and Richmond, Kentucky; Durham, North Carolina; Atlanta, Georgia; Munhall, Pennsylvania; along with Dallas and Austin, Texas.
