Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine revealed on Monday (June 17th) that he has throat cancer, forcing the band to cancel the remainder of its 2019 tour dates while Mustaine undergoes treatment.

The former Metallica guitarist shared the news on social media, writing, "I've been diagnosed with throat cancer. It's clearly something to be respected and faced head on -- but I've faced obstacles before. I'm working closely with my doctors, and we've mapped out a treatment plan which they feel has a 90% success rate. Treatment has already begun."

Mustaine said that the band will continue to work on its new studio album.

Meanwhile, other rock artists reacted to the news on social media. Smashing Pumpkins frontman William Corgan wrote on Instagram, "We love you, Dave, and are rooting for you," while Pearl Jam and Soundgarden drummer Matt Cameron said, "Get well soon brother!"

Fozzy singer Chris Jericho commented, "We got your back Dave," while Rob Zombie guitarist John 5 wrote, "Wishing you a speedy recovery @DaveMustaine - kick cancers ass! Here’s to a Megarecovery!"
