Food, we need it to survive, we celebrate with it, we drown our sorrows with it, and we need food just to live!  I love to eat and it shows on my overweight body.

The people at Ranker.com have an ongoing survey about food and asked if you were on an island and could have only 1 food what would it be?  Here are the top 10… so see if you agree.

I found some interesting stuff about Mother’s Day so I hope you enjoy it.

My mother passed away several years ago but she was an incredible woman.  Widowed when I was 4 years old she had to go back to school to support this little brat and my 4 sisters!   Her life made me realize that women are stronger than men in how they deal with some of the difficulties life throws at them.

So for all the Mom’s I say thanks,

 Here is some fun stuff

A new survey out for Mother’s Day had people read over a list of phrases moms use all the time with their kids, and pick which ones THEIR mom used.  79% of people said their mom used at least one of them.

Here are the five most common “mom-isms” . . .

  1. “Because I said so.”  43% of people said their mom has used it.
  2. “Don’t worry.  Everything will be okay.”  40% of moms use that one.
  3. “You’ll always be my baby.”  35%.
  4. “I’m always here to listen,” 28%.
  5. “You’re stronger than you think you are,” 26%.

Two more that just missed the top five were, “This too shall pass” at 20% . . . and, “Oh, is THAT what you’re wearing?” at 17%.

There’s some magical force that immediately makes women ALL start doing the same “mom things” once they have kids.  And sure, some moms skip a few of them . . . but no one is totally immune.

A new survey asked people how many of these classic “mom things” their mothers did when they were growing up . . . or still do now.  Check ’em out . . .

  1. Laves you in the grocery store line while she goes to grab one more thing . . . 90% of people’s moms have done that.
  2. Texts with just one finger . . . 83%.
  3. Won’t get you a snack when you’re out because you “have food in the house” . . . 82%.
  4. Gets into never-ending conversations with people she runs into at the store . . . 73%.
  5. Still holds grudges against kids who wronged you years or decades ago . . . 69%.
  6. Tells you that you look beautiful or handsome even when you look terrible . . . 68%.
  7. Holds her arm out in front of you when she slams on the brakes . . . 58%.
  8. Calls celebrities by the wrong name . . . 55%.
  9. Literally always has tissues on her in case you need one . . . 51%.
  10. Hands you mail that was addressed to you that she’d already opened . . . 49%.

Sunday is Mother’s Day . . . and if you haven’t gotten a gift or made reservations yet, well you should get on that.  But here are five OTHER things you can do to impress your mom that are easy and, best of all, FREE . . .

  1. Don’t just be on time to her house or the restaurant, be early.
  2. Sign your Mother’s Day card with more than just your name.  If you’re not great with words, get help from a sibling or a friend.
  3. If your mom is bad with technology, make sure her phone and computer are up to date and working properly.  Or if she needs some quick repairs around the house, offer to take care of them for her or hire someone who can.
  4.  Tell her about how you’ve used at least one piece of advice she’s given you over the years.
  5. As you’re leaving her house, take out the trash.

A new study found the average mom still does a lot more housework than dads do.  I know how SHOCKED you must be right now.

The average mom does 8 hours and 12 minutes of cleaning a week, compared to just 4 hours and 48 minutes for dads.

Moms also average 5 hours and 54 minutes of laundry, while dads spend about 4 hours on it.

And the average mom does 8 hours and 48 minutes of cooking each week compared to about 6 hours for dads.  Which is actually more than we expected.

The survey also found 78% of us are buying a Mother’s Day gift this year.  Here are four more stats about what we’ve got planned . . .

  1. 80% of us are planning a special meal.  About half are going to a restaurant.
  2. 74% of moms will get a Mother’s Day phone call.  About two-thirds will get a text.  So a lot of moms will get both.
  3. Only 50% of moms expect to get a card for Mother’s Day this year.
  4. Just 16% of moms said they’re planning to treat THEMSELVES to something nice.

Here is a story I wrote for Cache Valley Dot com about the Inauguration of the President of USU President Noel Cockeet.  I thought I should add a little bit more for this blog.

I was really impressed with the music performed during the concert. You know me I am a Motown and Rock and Roll guy.  But there is something great about hearing great music performed live.  I told my wife that even with today’s technology and great sound systems you still miss out on a little bit of power of live music performed well.

I did not attend Utah State but having lived in Logan for 22 years I am so impressed with the Aggies.  So you will know my wife Teresa works in the Presidents office at USU but I can say that through the years she has worked there with 4 Presidents I have nothing but praise for the administration for USU!

Let me add that at the end of the concert when the theater full of people in suits and dresses stood up to do “The Scottsman”  I just said to myself “THIS IS KOOL”

The Ellen Eccles Theater was packed last night with Aggies for the Inauguration concert for the 16th President of Utah State University, Noel Cockett.   Ron Jeppsen introduced the evening program which included music by the USU wind Orchestra and the Chamber Singers.

After a few speeches the new President talked about the history of the Land grant institutions like USU.  She also took the time to thank the previous President Stan Albrect who could not be there and remarked about his leadership and how he was a personal mentor.  She added that she will continue to support the research done at Utah State and strive for inclusion of all people onto campus.

The finally of the evening came with Drums and Bagpipes performing and the Orchestra and Singers leading those in attendance in doing “The Scotsman”

A reception was afterwards where the newest Aggie Ice Cream was served.  The Ice Cream with peanut butter ice cream a fudge ribbon and chocolate covered pretzel was named “Inauguration Peanut Butter Fudge Crunch

APRIL 28TH 2017                                               I HATE HOUSEWORK

Ok, I admit it I hate cleaning my house, but I try to help, not very well but I do try.  My family says I am kind of a Oscar Madison type from the ODD Couple .   So I found this guide from Busisness Insider I thought I would pass it along. So here are 4 tips to get you motivated enough to clean.

  1. Break it down into smaller tasks.  The idea of cleaning your whole house can be daunting, so break it down into smaller steps.  Buy some cleaning supplies one day, clean the counters the next day, sweep the floors day after that, and so on.
  2. Set a 10-minute alarm.  With this, you’re basically making a deal with yourself:  even though you don’t LIKE cleaning, you’ll do it anyway for 10 minutes.  The idea is that once you’ve already made some progress, it’ll be less tempting to quit.  And even if you DO quit, at least you did something.
  3. Remember that you don’t have to “feel like cleaning.”  According to one psychologist, you don’t need to feel inspired to clean, even though that would be nice.  You just need to get it done.
  4. Hire someone to help.  If hiring someone else to help clean makes you feel like you’re lazy or it’s not worth the money . . . try it once and see.  For a lot of people it’s worth cutting back on other expenses so you can afford to pay someone to help.

How about some stupid news it’s here!

People ask me all the time , Dave how do you get up at 4:30 every morning and sound so awake and happy?

Well, I am happy, awake??????  It is a struggle sometimes, but I really do enjoy my job here at KOOL 103.9.  I never thought when I started working in radio that I would be the “Morning Guy”.  I am not a real morning person but you find ways to enjoy being awake so early.  Here at KOOL we have a great view of Mt’s to the East and West which leads to some great sunrise colors.  Plus I get to see my friends at the other stations in our building.  So how do I do it?  Well the saying goes “Early to bed . Early to Rise , makes and man healthy wealthy and wise….. AND DANG TIRED!

A new survey in the daily mail asked people for the specific things that make them HATE LIFE in the mornings.  And here are the top 10 . . .

  1. Having a bad night’s sleep.   2.  Stress.      3.  Waking up earlier than you need to.     4.  Bad weather.
  2. Waking up but still feeling tired.    6.  Not wanting to go to work.  7.  Knowing you have a busy or tough day ahead.
  3. Thinking it’s Friday but realizing it’s not.     9.  Sleeping through your alarm.    10.  A bad commute to work.

April 14 2017:

I realize that listening to the news can be a little depressing.  So I want to tell you a little something that might not make the front page, but it proves there are good people in the world.

I was waiting for my wife while she was shopping at the Logan Shop-Ko.   It was Thursday night April 13th about 6:30pm right in the middle of a wind storm whipping through Utah.  Wind gust at the Logan Airport were clocked at 66mph about that time.  Here’s what happened.

I am watching pieces of cardboard and plastic bags flying all around me.  My car was being tossed around like clothes in the dryer, and then it happened.  A huge gust picked a small plant and small items from the Garden Center.  Just as I was about to go pick them up a young couple drives up in a small car and gets out to pick up the items.  I wondered if they would drive off with the items.   However, they pulled into the Garden center to give them back to the employees there.

I don’t know who they were, but they touched my heart and let me remember that there are still a lot of great honest people.

So, to this young couple I just want to say THANKS

Have you ever seen a UFO?

According to the National UFO Reporting Center, UFO sightings are at an all-time high.

From 1905 through 1980, there were less than 500 sightings a year.  In the ’80s, that went up to about 1,000 . . . in the ’90s, it was up to 4,000 . . . and now, it’s getting close to 4,500 to 5,000.

And Americans are the most likely to spot aliens . . . by FAR.  Our rate of UFO sightings is almost 300 TIMES higher than the average around the world.

The states with the highest rate of UFO sightings are:  Washington . . . Montana . . . Vermont . . . Oregon . . . Alaska . . . Maine . . . Ne

w Hampshire . . . Arizona . . . New Mexico . . . and Idaho.

(Dave)  I saw something on the road between Idaho Falls and Rexburg late one night (probably early in the morning before sunrise)  I saw something,  3 white lights in very large and very bright in the distance that went straight up very quickly.  I don’t claim to know what it was, but let me tell you it made me think.

When I was growing up in Memphis Tn one of my favorite things to do was to listen to records.  Yes the old 33 and a 1/3 got a workout at my house , listening to everything from the Beatles to The Tempataions, and Elvis.  We even listened to the Soundtrack to the Sound of Music !  But that is a story for another time.

One of my favorite albums was a comedy album by” The Smothers Brothers”.  i had been watching them on Ed Sullivan for years and they never failed to make me laugh.   Then “The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour” hit the TV and I was hooked.   I loved the humor, the folk music but ,most of all I enjoyed the goofy Tommy Smothers.

As I got older, I got to realize goofy Tommy was and is a brilliant man with the spoken word.   The brothers did so much to protest the Vietnam War and Racial tensions back in the 60″s and 70’s and standing up for what they believed in cost them the TV show and CBS fired them..

But the comic genius of Tommy Smothers has always inspired me, I would recite word for word his comedy routines for myself and my friends and family.   You can ask my wife I still do!

Several years ago a friend in Laughlin Nv who is friends with Tom asked me if I would like to interview him??????   WOULD I!!!!!!!!!!   and in a couple of hours I was on the phone with one of my all time favorite performers.   We talked about comedy and the roll of Dick Smothers in there duo.   Then I asked Tom about John Lennon and the Lost Weekend.  A part of Rock and Roll History.

Here is the interview :

When people ask me about what I have done in radio, I tell them about the day I talked with Tom Smothers and being so hyped up that i was floating on a cloud all day.    Tom even asked me to check out a You Tube video because he wanted my thoughts on putting this back into the act.   ME!  Dave Denton just a fan and he wanted to know what I thought.

I thought I would add a video of Tom as THE YO YO MAN

I usually don’t like to talk politics with you. Why?  Well if you have lived this past year you saw how bitter the Presidential election went.

I will not tell you who I voted for,  that was my choice and I will not ask who you voted for either, that was your choice.

So what is this blog post all about?   PERSPECTIVE!!!

Here is “Dave’s Matter of Perspective” from Friday 1-20-2017

Here’s to a better future, where respect and perspective can return to our lives.
