Peter Frampton, Paul Rodgers, and Rick Wakeman are teaming up to record Ben E. King's 1960 classic “Stand By Me” in celebration of the song's 60th anniversary. Best Classic Bands reported the remake is being organized by legendary British broadcaster, famed Old Grey Whistle Test host “Whispering” Bob Harris, who celebrates his 50th anniversary in the business this year, and has started a GoFundme page in connection with the single. The new version will be released on October 27th — 60 years to the day when Ben E. King first recorded the track.
Paul Rodgers said in the announcement for the remake, “'Whispering Bob’ gave Free one of our first breaks on (the) TV show he hosted, The Old Grey Whistle Test. For the past 50 years he has constantly supported music and musicians both experienced and up and coming.”
The announcement stated that proceeds will benefit the UK charity Help Musicians: “This very special recording of 'Stand By Me' will feature some of the finest musicians on earth, all contributing their parts from isolation in locations across the world to make one incredible project.”
Among the others artists slated to appear on the track are John Oates, Leo Sayer, Richard Thompson, and Beth Nielsen Chapman.
