QUEEN’S ROGER TAYLOR: ADAM LAMBERT IS ‘ONE OF THE GREATEST VOICES IN THE WORLD’

Queen's co-founding drummer Roger Taylor rates the band's current frontman, Adam Lambert, as being one of the top voices on the planet. Taylor was asked if he ever saw a future for Queen after Freddie Mercury's 1991 death, and was quoted by Ultimate-Guitar.com as saying, “Absolutely not, no idea. When Freddie passed away, we really thought, 'Well, that's that.' And it was really events that transpired that caused us to go on. We did some live shows with Paul Rodgers — he's a wonderful singer. And then we found Adam just by accident, really, and things have gone from strength to strength.”

Taylor went on to say, “He's a joy to work with, fantastic. And he's adorable and, of course, he's just an incredible frontman with one of the greatest voices in the world, I think.”

Adam Lambert admitted that he stepped into pretty big shoes when he agreed to take the stage fronting Queen — a band that had perhaps the most legendary and charismatic frontman with the late-Freddie Mercury: “At first it was a little daunting, when we started our first incarnation of this. I was definitely. . . I was apprehensive. He’s a big idol for me, and I thought to myself, y’know, ‘I hope that the fans dig this,’ y’know? ‘Cause there was a possibility that they wouldn’t. And it felt really good, the reception was warm, the press reaction to it the first time was very warm. And it’s such a treat to get on stage and pay my respects and pay tribute to one of my favorite singers ever — and to sing some of the greatest music ever written.”
