RINGO STARR DISAPPOINTED AT DELAY IN PETER JACKSON’S ‘LET IT BE’ REVAMP

Ringo Starr joins the legion of Beatles fans that are disappointed that Peter Jackson's documentary using unused footage from the Let It Be movie has been delayed. Due to the ongoing pandemic, the film — titled The Beatles: Get Back, which was set to hit theaters this September — has been pushed back nearly a full calendar year, with a new opening date of August 27th, 2021.

The film has been compiled from over 55 hours of unseen footage, filmed by Michael Lindsay-Hogg in 1969, and 140 hours of mostly unheard audio recordings from the Let It Be album sessions.

Ringo Starr told us he was hoping, like the rest of us, that Jackson's movie would be wrapped, and rounding third for a late-summer release: “I mean, I'd only seen the on the roof stuff that Peter edited together. And, y'know, in the movie, it was — I'm guessing — 10-minutes-long, it's now 36-minutes-long, and it is incredible. Y'know, he was still puttin' the rest of the documentary together his way. He did the music on the roof section first, and we had a showing down here and it was just great.”

Ringo went on to talk about how COVID-19 has sidelined Jackson's work on the eagerly anticipated project: “Then he went back to work on the rest of the documentary — but from February, he hasn't been allowed to get into his studio, either. And we should've been out, as you know, this year, and it's been put off till next year. We're going out on Disney and in some theaters. So, it's, like, everything has been put on hold for a year.”
