The eagerly anticipated new documentary, The Bee Gees: How Can You Mend A Broken Heart, premieres tonight (October 8th) on the big screen. The showing takes place outdoors at the Dezerland Park Drive-In at 7:30 p.m. in the Gibb Brothers' adopted home of Miami, Florida.
The Miami New Times reported the doc kicks off the Miami Film Festival's fall presentation, and is located only one block away from Criteria Studios, where Barry, Robin, and Maurice Gibb cut many of their mid-to-late 1970's classics — including “Jive Talkin',” “Nights On Broadway,” “Love So Right,” “Tragedy,” and “Too Much Heaven,” among many others.
Shortly before his death in 2003, Maurice Gibb told us that the group had always been more focused on new projects rather than past glories: “We've always moved on, not like the cult of the day who want to go back to the '70s; we're still moving forward. We've done that, been there. And it's very hard. . . I always get quite surprised when people ask us sometimes, they'd say things like, 'Oh, can you write another 'Stayin' Alive?' Or could you write another 'You Should Be Dancing?'' It's, like, we can't as writers; we can't go back.”
